Hip Raise (Bent Knee)

The reverse crunch that starts and ends with the feet on the floor: draw the bent knees over the chest and curl the hips off the floor, then roll back down.

How to do it

Setup

On the back, arms by the sides with the palms down, knees bent and feet on the floor.

Steps

  1. Lift the feet and draw the knees over the chest.
  2. Curl the hips off the floor, the shins pointing up.
  3. Roll the hips down and touch the feet back lightly.

Common mistakes

Throwing the legs to get the hips up: a slow curl from the abs lifts them. Pushing hard through the hands: they steady you; the abs do the lift. Dropping the hips back down: roll them down one vertebra at a time.

Breathing

Exhale lifting the hips, inhale lowering.
