Heel Press

At a wall in a staggered stance, press the straight back leg's heel into the floor on each lean forward, then ease off; the calf stretch comes in slow presses, not one hold.

How to do it

Setup

Facing a wall, straight arms on it at shoulder height, one foot a long step behind, both feet pointing ahead.

Steps

  1. Bend the front knee and lean toward the wall, pressing the back heel down.
  2. Hold the press for a moment with the back knee straight.
  3. Ease back, then press again; switch legs after the set.

Common mistakes

Back knee bending as you press: keep it straight; the press goes through the heel. Heel coming up between presses: it stays on the floor, only the pressure changes. Pushing with the arms: they only rest on the wall; the legs do the work.

Breathing

Exhale pressing, inhale easing off.
