Seated Hip Stretch with Opposite Leg from Behind

Sitting back on the heel of one kneeling leg with the other leg straight in front, fold over it and hold the foot; the back of the straight leg and the hip stretch.

How to do it

Setup

One knee down with the hips sitting back on that heel, the other leg straight in front, heel on the floor.

Steps

  1. Hinge forward over the straight leg with a long back.
  2. Take hold of the foot and let the chest ease down.
  3. Hold and breathe, then sit up and switch legs.

Common mistakes

Rounding the back to reach the foot: hold the shin instead and keep the back long. Hips lifting off the heel: stay seated on it. Straight knee locked hard: keep it soft.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
