Forward Flexion Neck Stretch

Standing tall with the arms at the sides, the head drops forward until the chin nears the chest; only its own weight stretches the back of the neck.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, arms relaxed at the sides, shoulders low.

Steps

  1. Let the head drop forward, chin toward the chest.
  2. Keep the shoulders down and the upper back still.
  3. Hold and breathe, then lift the head slowly.

Common mistakes

Rounding the whole upper back: only the neck bends; keep the chest up. Pushing the head down with the hands: this version uses the weight of the head alone. Jutting the chin forward first: let it drop toward the throat.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
