Elevated Standing Calf Raise

The bodyweight calf raise from a step, one hand on a post; the heels drop below the edge, adding the stretch the floor lacks.

How to do it

Setup

Balls of both feet on a step's edge, heels hanging, one hand on a post.

Steps

  1. Rise until the ankles are fully extended, legs straight.
  2. Hold for a beat, the hand only steadying.
  3. Lower until the heels sink well below the edge.

Common mistakes

Feet creeping off the edge: reset so only the balls of the feet are on it. Springing up from the stretch: stop for a beat at the bottom. Pulling on the post: the hand keeps balance only.

Breathing

Exhale rising, inhale lowering.
