Elbow Lift (Reverse Push-Up)
Lying on the back, press the elbows into the floor to lift the upper back off it, then lower; the push-up turned over, for the back of the shoulders and the upper back.
How to do it
Setup
Lying on the back, knees bent, feet flat, elbows bent at the sides on the floor, hands pointing up.
Steps
- Drive the elbows down into the floor to lift the chest and upper back.
- Squeeze the shoulder blades together at the top.
- Lower the upper back to the floor slowly.
Common mistakes
Pushing with the hips: they stay on the floor; the elbows lift the chest. Head leading the lift: keep the chin tucked and the neck in line. Elbows sliding out from the body: plant them by the ribs.
Breathing
Exhale lifting, inhale lowering.
