Dumbbell Step-Up Single-Leg Balance with Bicep Curl

Step up onto a bench and hold the top on one leg with the other knee raised, curling both dumbbells while you balance; then lower them and step down.

How to do it

Setup

Facing a sturdy bench, one foot flat on top of it, a dumbbell in each hand at the sides, palms forward.

Steps

  1. Drive through the top foot to stand on the bench, lifting the other knee.
  2. Balance on one leg and curl both bells to the shoulders.
  3. Lower the bells and step down under control; switch the lead leg.

Common mistakes

Pushing off the floor foot: the top leg does the lift. Wobbling at the top: find the balance before the curl starts. Dropping down from the bench: step down slowly, bells already lowered.

Breathing

Exhale stepping up and curling, inhale stepping down.
