Dumbbell Standing Biceps Curl to Shoulder Press

A dumbbell curl to the shoulders that flows straight into an overhead press, then back down the same way; two movements in one rep.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, a dumbbell in each hand at the thighs, palms forward.

Steps

  1. Curl the bells to the shoulders, elbows at the sides.
  2. Turn the palms forward and press the bells overhead.
  3. Lower to the shoulders, then uncurl to the thighs.

Common mistakes

Swinging the curl up with the hips: the arms curl, the torso stays still. Pressing from a half curl: finish the curl at the shoulders first. Arching as the bells go overhead: ribs down, glutes tight.

Breathing

Exhale on the curl and on the press, inhale lowering.
