Barbell Snatch from Blocks
The snatch started from blocks at about knee height and caught overhead in a full squat; the short, dead-stop pull demands a faster finish.
How to do it
Setup
Bar on blocks, wide snatch grip, hips back, shoulders over the bar, back flat.
Steps
- Drive with the legs, bar close, until it reaches the hips.
- Extend hard and pull yourself under, punching the arms straight.
- Catch in a deep overhead squat, stand, and return the bar to the blocks.
Common mistakes
Starting with the shoulders behind the bar: set them over it before the drive. Soft elbows in the catch: lock them on arrival; if the bar is lost, push it away and step clear. Standing up before the bar is stable: fix it overhead in the bottom, then rise.
Breathing
Big breath at the blocks, exhale after the catch.
