Barbell Power Snatch from Blocks

The power snatch from blocks: from a dead stop at about knee height, the bar is caught overhead above parallel.

How to do it

Setup

Bar on blocks, snatch grip, shoulders over the bar, back flat, feet in the pulling stance.

Steps

  1. Drive with the legs, keeping the back angle until the bar passes the knees.
  2. Open the hips fast and turn the bar over, arms punching up.
  3. Stop the catch ABOVE parallel with locked arms, then stand.

Common mistakes

Riding the catch below parallel: a power snatch brakes high; lower than that is a squat snatch. Bar swinging out in front: keep it brushing the hips. Pressing the bar out overhead: the arms lock the moment it arrives.

Breathing

Big breath at the blocks, exhale after the catch.
