Dumbbell Standing Alternating Cross Raise

A front raise that crosses the body: one dumbbell at a time rises from the side to shoulder height in front of the opposite shoulder, so the upper chest joins the front of the shoulder.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, a dumbbell in each hand at the sides, palms facing in, feet hip-width.

Steps

  1. Raise one bell across the body to shoulder height, arm almost straight.
  2. Stop with the bell in front of the opposite shoulder.
  3. Lower it along the same path and raise the other.

Common mistakes

Swinging the bell up with the hips: stand still, lighter bells. Raising above shoulder height: the cross ends at the opposite shoulder. Twisting the torso to cross further: the arm crosses, the chest stays square.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
