Dumbbell Around the World

Lying on a bench, sweep straight-ish arms in a wide arc from the hips to overhead and back; light weight only.

Dumbbell Around the World, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

On a bench, light bells at the hips, palms up, arms nearly straight.

Steps

  1. Sweep both arms in wide arcs along the floor's plane to overhead.
  2. Keep the bells low and level through the arc.
  3. Return along the same wide path.

Common mistakes

Arcs rising into a press: the sweep stays LOW and wide. Heavy bells: this is a stretch-arc, light by design. Rushing the overhead point: the stretch there is the prize.

Breathing

Inhale sweeping overhead, exhale returning.
