Dumbbell Seated Shoulder Press (Parallel Grip)
The seated dumbbell press with the palms facing each other throughout; the elbows travel in front of the body instead of out to the sides.
How to do it
Setup
Seated tall, dumbbells at the shoulders with the palms facing in, elbows forward, feet planted.
Steps
- Press the bells straight up, palms still facing each other.
- Finish with the arms straight over the shoulders.
- Lower until the bells are back at shoulder height, elbows forward.
Common mistakes
Elbows flaring out at the bottom: with this grip they stay in front of the body. Bells drifting forward overhead: finish them over the shoulders, not the face. Slumping as the set wears on: sit tall, ribs down.
Breathing
Exhale on the press, inhale lowering.
