Dumbbell Seated Alternating Lateral Raise

The seated lateral raise one arm at a time from a bench with a back rest; the other bell waits at the side.

How to do it

Setup

Seated against an upright pad, bells hanging at the sides, palms in.

Steps

  1. Raise one arm out to the side to shoulder height.
  2. Lower it before the other arm starts.
  3. Keep the back on the pad as the sides switch.

Common mistakes

Leaning toward the resting side: back and head stay on the pad. Shrugging the working shoulder: blade down first. Hand rising above the elbow: the elbow leads.

Breathing

Exhale on each raise, inhale lowering.
