Dumbbells at the sides: the reverse lunge, then the step-up with the trailing knee driven up; the arms stay long, the trunk upright.

How to do it

Setup

Dumbbells at the sides, arms long, box in front.

Steps

  1. Step back into the lunge, bells hanging.
  2. Drive up through the front foot and step onto the box with it.
  3. Drive the trailing knee up; the dumbbells stay still at the sides.
  4. Step down under control and repeat on the same leg; switch after the set.

Common mistakes

Bells swinging with the step: the arms hang quiet. Shoulders rounding under the load: blades set, chest tall. Short back-steps: the front knee dives; reach the step long.

Breathing

Inhale stepping back, exhale driving up onto the box.
