Dumbbell One-Arm Lateral Raise

The lateral raise one arm at a time, the free hand on the hip; with one bell a shrug or a lean is easy to spot.

How to do it

Setup

Stand tall, one bell at the side, free hand on the hip.

Steps

  1. Raise the arm out to the side to shoulder height.
  2. Lead with the elbow, the shoulder kept down.
  3. Lower slowly; switch arms after the set.

Common mistakes

Leaning away from the bell: stand tall; the lean steals the start. Shoulder hiking toward the ear: blade down before the lift. Swinging from the hip: a dead stop at the side.

Breathing

Exhale raising, inhale lowering.
