Dumbbell Alternate Lateral Raise

The standing lateral raise one arm at a time, the other bell resting at the side.

How to do it

Setup

Stand tall, bells at the sides, palms in, elbows soft.

Steps

  1. Raise one arm out to shoulder height.
  2. Bring it down slowly before the other arm goes.
  3. Keep the torso from tipping toward the raised arm.

Common mistakes

Tipping away from the working arm: stand tall; the lean steals the start. Rushing the handover: each arm finishes its rep. Shrugging the raised side: blade down.

Breathing

Exhale on each raise, inhale lowering.
