Dumbbell Lateral to Front Raise

Standing with dumbbells, raise the arms out to the sides, carry them round to the front at shoulder height and lower from there.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, bells at the sides with the palms in.

Steps

  1. Lift both arms out to the sides until they are level with the shoulders.
  2. Carry them forward at that height until the bells nearly touch.
  3. Lower the bells in front of the thighs and start again.

Common mistakes

Arms sagging during the forward sweep: shoulder height the whole way round. Leaning back to lift: stand tall; a lighter pair. Shrugging as the arms rise: blades down, the delts lift.

Breathing

Exhale opening the arms, inhale lowering.
