Dumbbell Incline Shrug

Seated back against an inclined bench with the dumbbells hanging at the sides, shrug up toward the ears; the back rest keeps the torso still.

How to do it

Setup

Back against an inclined bench, feet flat, a dumbbell hanging at each side, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Lift the shoulders toward the ears, the back staying on the pad.
  2. Pause with the traps tight.
  3. Lower until the bells hang long.

Common mistakes

Sliding up the bench as the shoulders rise: feet planted, back still. Bells swinging into the bench legs: keep them hanging straight at the sides. Elbows bending: the arms stay straight.

Breathing

Exhale on the shrug, inhale lowering.
