Dumbbell Incline Row

The chest-supported dumbbell row with an overhand grip and the elbows traveling out at about 45°, which moves the pull to the upper back.

How to do it

Setup

Chest on an incline bench, feet braced, bells hanging under the shoulders in an overhand grip.

Steps

  1. Row the bells to the lower chest, elbows out at about 45°.
  2. Squeeze the blades together at the top.
  3. Lower to long arms, the chest still on the pad.

Common mistakes

Elbows pinned to the ribs: that is the lat row; let them travel out. Elbows flared straight out to the sides: that is the rear-delt row; hold them near 45°. Shrugging the bells up: blades back first, then the arms.

Breathing

Exhale on the row, inhale lowering.
