Dumbbell Full Front Raise Catch

A one-arm front raise taken past shoulder height all the way to straight overhead and back down; the bell stays in the hand throughout.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, feet hip-width, one dumbbell at the front of the thigh, the free arm at the side.

Steps

  1. Raise the bell on a straight arm in front of you, past shoulder height.
  2. Carry it on up until the arm points straight overhead.
  3. Lower it the same way to the thigh; switch arms after the set.

Common mistakes

Leaning back to get the bell overhead: ribs down, trunk still. A heavy bell: the overhead end is the weakest range; go light. Dropping the bell from the top: lower it as slowly as you raise it.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
