Dumbbell Close-Grip Curl

The standing curl with two dumbbells held end to end in front of the body, the hands close together as on a bar.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, two dumbbells end to end in front of the thighs, palms up, hands almost touching.

Steps

  1. Curl both bells together up to the chest.
  2. Keep them touching and the elbows at the sides.
  3. Lower them slowly to straight arms.

Common mistakes

Bells drifting apart on the way up: press them together through the whole rep. Elbows flaring out to make room: keep them close to the ribs. Leaning back to finish: stand tall and use less weight.

Breathing

Exhale on the curl, inhale lowering.
