Dumbbell Bent-Over Curl

Both dumbbells curled from a hip hinge with the upper arms hanging straight down, so the torso angle, not a bench, keeps them still.

How to do it

Setup

Bent forward from the hips about 45°, flat back and soft knees, the dumbbells hanging below the shoulders with the palms forward.

Steps

  1. Curl both bells toward the shoulders, upper arms vertical.
  2. Keep the torso angle fixed; only the forearms move.
  3. Lower the bells until the arms hang straight.

Common mistakes

Standing up as the bells rise: hold the hinge; the torso keeps its angle. Elbows drifting forward to help: the upper arms hang straight down. Rounding the lower back: keep it flat and brace before each set.

Breathing

Exhale on the curl, inhale lowering.
