Decline Sit-Up

The full sit-up on a decline bench with the hands behind the head: the slope makes the curl longer and harder than on the floor.

How to do it

Setup

Lying back on a decline bench, feet hooked under the rollers at the top, fingertips behind the head, elbows wide.

Steps

  1. Curl up off the pad until the torso is upright.
  2. Pause tall at the top without pulling on the head.
  3. Roll back down the slope until the shoulder blades touch.

Common mistakes

Yanking the head up with the hands: the fingertips only rest behind it. Dropping back down the slope: lower as slowly as you rose. Bench set steeper than you can control: lower the angle first.

Breathing

Exhale sitting up, inhale rolling down.
