Crossover Kneeling Hip Flexor Stretch

The kneeling hip flexor stretch with the back leg crossed behind the front one, curtsy-fashion; the crossed line reaches the front and the outside of the back hip.

How to do it

Setup

From standing, step one leg back and across behind the other into a low lunge, the back knee on the floor, hands hanging beside the front foot.

Steps

  1. Sink the hips down and forward until the front of the back hip stretches.
  2. Keep the chest over the hips, the hands only brushing the floor.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Front knee caving toward the crossed leg: keep it over the middle toes. Leaning the chest onto the front thigh: stay tall so the stretch reaches the hip. Back knee landing hard: set it down softly, on a mat.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
