Crescent Moon Pose

A high lunge with the arms raised overhead and the back knee lifted off the floor; the front leg holds the pose while the front of the back hip stretches.

How to do it

Setup

From kneeling, one foot stepped forward into a lunge, the front knee over the ankle, the back toes tucked.

Steps

  1. Sweep the arms overhead, palms facing each other.
  2. Lift the back knee and reach the back heel away.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Front knee drifting past the toes: step longer, knee over the ankle. Lower back arching as the arms rise: ribs down, tailbone long. Back knee sagging toward the floor: press through the back heel.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
