Cone Drill

Shuffle sideways from cone to cone along a row of low cones, changing direction at the cones; the feet never cross.

How to do it

Setup

Low athletic stance beside a row of low cones, feet wider than the hips, weight on the balls of the feet.

Steps

  1. Push off the trailing foot and shuffle sideways to the next cone.
  2. Plant the outside foot with the knee bent and change direction.
  3. Keep the hips low and level; the feet stay apart.

Common mistakes

Standing up at each change of direction: the stance stays low from cone to cone. Planting on a straight knee: bend it and keep it over the foot as you stop. Crossing the feet to go faster: a shuffle keeps them apart.

Breathing

Fast steady rhythm.
