Chin Tuck

Sitting or standing tall, draw the chin straight back over the throat without tipping the head; hold, then release.

Chin Tuck, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Sit or stand tall, shoulders down, eyes level.

Steps

  1. Draw the chin straight back over the throat, as if sliding the head along a shelf.
  2. Keep the eyes level – the head does not tip down.
  3. Hold the position, then release slowly.

Common mistakes

Nodding the chin down instead of back: this is a slide, not a bow. Pushing with a hand hard enough to strain. Holding the breath through the set.

Breathing

Breathe normally; exhale as you draw the chin back.
