Cable Overhead Squat
The overhead squat with a short bar held up on straight arms and tethered by a cable at each end to pulleys by the feet; the arms stay locked overhead while the hips sink.
How to do it
Setup
Standing between the two floor pulleys, a bar held overhead on straight arms with a cable clipped to each end, feet shoulder-width.
Steps
- Push the bar up and squat down, the arms staying straight.
- Keep the bar over the middle of the feet as the hips drop.
- Stand up through the whole foot, the arms still locked.
Common mistakes
Bar drifting forward of the feet: push it up and back so it stays over the middle of the foot. Elbows bending under the load: lock them before each squat. Chest folding over the knees: sit the hips down between the heels and keep the chest up.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale up.
