Step-Up (1st and 2nd Stairs Steps)
The step-up on a staircase, one foot placed on the first step and then on the second; the higher step asks for more knee and hip bend.
How to do it
Setup
Standing at the foot of a staircase, feet hip-width, arms relaxed.
Steps
- Place the whole foot on the first step and stand up on it.
- Step back down, then reach the same foot to the second step.
- Stand up through that leg and step back down.
Common mistakes
Only the toes on the step: place the whole foot. Springing off the bottom foot: let the leg on the stair do the work. Rushing the higher step: slow down; it is the harder rep.
Breathing
Exhale stepping up, inhale stepping down.
