Weighted Sandbag Squat

The squat with a sandbag held across the back of both shoulders by its handles; a heavy, shifting load that the upper back has to keep in place.

How to do it

Setup

Sandbag across the back of the shoulders, a hand on each handle, feet shoulder-width.

Steps

  1. Squat down with the torso upright.
  2. Keep the bag pinned high on the shoulders with both hands.
  3. Stand up evenly on both feet.

Common mistakes

Chest dropping as the bag pushes forward: elbows down, chest up. Bag sliding down the back: pin it high against the shoulders. Knees caving on the way up: push them out over the toes.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
