Cable Lateral Step-Up

The lateral step-up holding a low cable handle on the side away from the bench; the cable pulls against the step, so the hips must hold the line.

How to do it

Setup

Side-on to a bench, the near foot on it, the low cable handle in the far hand.

Steps

  1. Press through the foot on the bench until that leg is straight.
  2. Keep the torso upright against the cable's sideways pull.
  3. Lower the free foot to the floor under control.

Common mistakes

Leaning toward the stack: brace and stay tall over the working foot. Pushing off the floor foot: the leg on the bench does the lifting. Stack slamming as you step down: lower slowly and keep the cable taut.

Breathing

Exhale stepping up, inhale down.
