Cable Forward Raise
A one-arm front raise with the low pulley behind you, the cable running up past the hip; the free hand rests on the lower back.
How to do it
Setup
Back to a low pulley, the handle in one hand at the thigh, the free hand on the lower back, feet hip-width.
Steps
- Raise the straight arm forward to shoulder height, knuckles up.
- Keep the torso still as the cable pulls the arm back.
- Lower the handle to the thigh with the cable still taut.
Common mistakes
Leaning forward to help the raise: stand tall and let the shoulder work. Raising above shoulder height: stop level; higher, the upper traps take over. Letting the cable snap the arm back: control the return to the thigh.
Breathing
Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
