Bodyweight Supported Squat

The bodyweight squat onto the seat of a squat stand, the ankles locked under rollers and the hands clasped at the chest; the seat sets the depth.

How to do it

Setup

Standing in the stand, the ankles under the rollers, the seat pad behind the calves, hands clasped at the chest.

Steps

  1. Push the hips back and lower until you sit on the seat.
  2. Keep the chest up and the weight in the feet while seated.
  3. Stand up without swinging, the ankles staying under the rollers.

Common mistakes

Collapsing onto the seat: sit down slowly; the lowering is half the work. Throwing the arms forward to get up: stand with the legs, hands stay at the chest. Knees falling inward as you rise: push them out over the toes.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
