Bodyweight Reverse Lunge with Overhead Reach
The bodyweight reverse lunge with both arms reaching overhead as the back knee drops; the reach lengthens the front of the trailing hip and asks the trunk to stay tall.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, feet hip-width, arms at the sides.
Steps
- Step back into the lunge and sweep both arms up overhead as you sink.
- Reach tall at the bottom without arching the lower back.
- Lower the arms as you drive back to standing; alternate legs.
Common mistakes
Arching the lower back to reach higher: ribs down, the reach comes from the shoulders. Arms swinging forward instead of up: raise them in line with the ears. Rushing the reach: hold the top of it for a beat.
Breathing
Inhale stepping back, exhale driving up.
