Bodyweight Good Morning

The unloaded good morning, hands behind the head: the way to learn the hip hinge before a bar goes on the back.

How to do it

Setup

Feet hip-width, knees soft, hands behind the head.

Steps

  1. Push the hips back and tip the chest forward.
  2. Stop when the back of the thighs is stretched.
  3. Squeeze the glutes to stand tall.

Common mistakes

Bending at the waist instead of the hips: the hips travel back first. Pulling on the head with the hands: they only rest there. Knees drifting forward: shins stay nearly vertical.

Breathing

Inhale hinging, exhale standing.
