Barbell Wide Stance Stiff-Leg Deadlift

The stiff-leg deadlift from a wide stance with the toes turned out; the wide feet bring the inner thighs into the hinge.

How to do it

Setup

Feet well outside the shoulders, toes turned out, bar at the thighs in an overhand grip, knees nearly straight.

Steps

  1. Hinge forward, the bar sliding straight down between the legs.
  2. Stop when the back would start to round.
  3. Drive the hips through to stand.

Common mistakes

Knees caving in the wide stance: keep them over the toes. Chasing the floor: the stretch sets the depth. Bar drifting out in front: keep it close.

Breathing

Inhale hinging, exhale standing.
