Bodyweight Forward Lunge (Smaller Stance, Upright Torso)

A forward lunge with a shorter step and an upright torso, which puts more of the work on the front thigh.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, arms relaxed at the sides.

Steps

  1. Step forward a little shorter than a normal lunge.
  2. Drop the back knee straight down, torso vertical.
  3. Push back up to standing through the front foot.

Common mistakes

Front heel lifting: the short step sends the knee forward; keep the heel down. Leaning over the thigh: the upright torso is this variant. Knee caving on the step: track the toes.

Breathing

Inhale on the step, exhale pushing back.
