Bent Arms Chin-Up

Chin-ups kept in the top half of the range: the elbows never straighten, so the arms and back stay loaded through the whole set.

How to do it

Setup

Underhand grip shoulder-width, pulled up until the elbows are bent to about 90°, legs still.

Steps

  1. Pull the chin over the bar.
  2. Lower only until the elbows reach about a right angle.
  3. Pull up again without straightening the arms.

Common mistakes

Sinking to straight arms: the bent elbows are the exercise; stop at the right angle. Kicking the legs to finish: a quiet body and a shorter set. Shrugging into the ears at the bottom: keep the blades down.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
