Barbell Standing Close-Grip Curl
The barbell curl with the hands a hand's width apart, well inside the shoulders; the forearms angle in toward each other.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, bar at the thighs, underhand grip with the hands about a hand's width apart, elbows at the sides.
Steps
- Curl the bar to the upper chest.
- Keep the elbows by the ribs even with the hands close.
- Lower the bar to straight arms.
Common mistakes
Hands so close the wrists bend inward: a hand's width apart is close enough. Elbows flaring out to the sides: keep them by the ribs. Swinging from the hips: stand still, lighter bar.
Breathing
Exhale on the curl, inhale lowering.
