Barbell Seated Alternate Leg Raise

Seated leaning back with a barbell held overhead on straight arms, the straight legs rise and lower one after the other.

How to do it

Setup

Seated on the floor leaning back a little, legs straight, a light barbell pressed overhead.

Steps

  1. Raise one straight leg high while the other stays low.
  2. Switch legs in the air without letting either touch down.
  3. Keep the bar locked over the shoulders the whole set.

Common mistakes

Bar drifting forward as the legs rise: keep it stacked over the shoulders. Leaning back further to lift higher: hold the trunk angle. Bending the knees: keep the legs long.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
