Barbell Reverse-Grip Bent-Over Row

The bent-over barbell row with the palms facing forward; the underhand grip pulls the elbows back close to the body and lets the lats and biceps do more.

How to do it

Setup

Hinged to about 45°, back flat, knees soft, underhand grip at shoulder width.

Steps

  1. Row the bar to the belly, elbows tight to the sides.
  2. Keep the wrists straight as the bar touches.
  3. Lower to long arms, the angle held.

Common mistakes

Curling the bar with the biceps: the elbows drive back. Standing up with each pull: the hinge is the exercise. Grip wider than the shoulders: underhand works at shoulder width.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale lowering.
