Barbell Low Bar Squat

The back squat with the bar set low across the rear shoulders, the torso leaning further forward to keep it over the feet.

How to do it

Setup

Bar below the traps on the rear delts, hands wider, elbows back.

Steps

  1. Push the hips back and sit to parallel.
  2. Keep the bar over the middle of the foot.
  3. Drive the hips up and the chest with them.

Common mistakes

Bar sliding down the back: grip tighter and pinch the blades. Wrists bent back under the load: keep them straight; the back holds the bar. Leaning so far the bar drifts past the toes: keep it over mid-foot.

Breathing

Big breath at the top, exhale past the sticking point.
