Barbell Narrow Stance Squat
The back squat with the feet close together; the narrow stance bends the knees further forward and loads the front of the thighs more.
How to do it
Setup
Bar across the upper back, feet a little narrower than the hips, toes forward.
Steps
- Squat down between the heels, knees traveling forward over the toes.
- Stop where the heels would lift or the back would round.
- Stand up, pressing the floor away with the whole foot.
Common mistakes
Heels lifting in the narrow stance: shorten the depth or raise the heels on thin plates. Torso folding forward: keep the chest up under the bar. Knees drifting in toward each other: point them where the toes point.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale up.
