Barbell Front Chest Squat

The front squat with the arms crossed, each hand on the bar over the opposite shoulder; a hold for stiff wrists.

How to do it

Setup

Bar on the front delts, arms crossed on top of it, elbows up level with it.

Steps

  1. Squat down with the elbows held up.
  2. Keep the torso upright under the bar.
  3. Stand, chest leading the rise.

Common mistakes

Elbows dropping: the bar rolls off the shoulders; hold them level. Hands gripping the bar tight: they only pin it in place. Chest folding at depth: stop where the elbows stay up.

Breathing

Big breath at the top, exhale past the sticking point.
