Barbell Elevated Heel Squat
The back squat with the heels on a wedge; the raised heels let the knees go further forward, so the squat sits deeper and more upright on the thighs.
How to do it
Setup
Bar on the upper back, heels on a slant board, feet shoulder-width, toes slightly out.
Steps
- Squat down with the knees traveling forward over the toes.
- Keep the chest up and the heels planted on the slope.
- Drive back up with the bar over the middle of the foot.
Common mistakes
Slant board too steep for the load: start low and add height. Hips rising faster than the chest: lead with the chest out of the bottom. Knees drifting inward: track them over the toes.
Breathing
Inhale down, exhale up.
