Barbell Static Lunge

The static lunge under a bar: feet fixed in a split stance, the back knee drops toward the floor and rises without a step.

How to do it

Setup

Bar on the upper back, one foot a long stride ahead of the other, back heel up.

Steps

  1. Sink straight down, both knees bending toward 90°.
  2. Torso tall, the bar stacked over the hips.
  3. Drive up through the front foot, feet staying where they are.

Common mistakes

Stance too short: the front knee runs forward; lengthen it. Finishing each rep on a locked front knee: stay just short of straight so the legs keep the load. Bar rolling as the torso tips: stay tall and brace.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
