Kettlebell Side Lunge

The side lunge holding a kettlebell by the horns at the chest; the bell's weight in front helps the hips sit deep into the bent leg.

How to do it

Setup

Feet together, a kettlebell held by the horns against the chest.

Steps

  1. Take a wide lateral step and sit back over that heel.
  2. Keep the other leg straight and the bell at the chest.
  3. Drive off the bent leg back to the start; alternate sides.

Common mistakes

Bell dropping toward the floor: keep it high on the chest. Bent knee drifting past the toes: sit the hips back. Rounding the back to go deeper: stop where the chest can stay up.

Breathing

Inhale into the lunge, exhale pushing back.
