Static Lunges

Feet in a split stance; drop the back knee toward the floor and drive back up without stepping.

Static Lunges, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Split stance, one foot forward, one back; torso upright, hands where they help balance.

Steps

  1. Drop the back knee straight down toward the floor.
  2. Stop just above it; both knees near 90°.
  3. Drive up through the front foot without stepping.

Common mistakes

Front knee diving past the toes: drop down, not forward. Torso tipping ahead: chest up, hips under the shoulders. Pushing off the back toes: the front leg does the work.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale as you drive up.
