Kettlebell Lateral Lunge

The lateral lunge with one kettlebell racked at the shoulder; the load sits to one side, so the trunk resists a lean as the hips sit into the bent leg.

How to do it

Setup

Feet together, a kettlebell racked at one shoulder, the bell resting on the forearm.

Steps

  1. Step wide to the side and lower over the bent leg.
  2. Keep the racked elbow tucked and the torso tall.
  3. Push back to the start; switch the bell to the other side between sets.

Common mistakes

Torso tipping toward the bell: brace and stay square. Bell sliding off the forearm: keep the wrist straight and the elbow in. Outer edge of the straight leg's foot lifting: press the whole sole down.

Breathing

Inhale into the lunge, exhale pushing back.
